THAMBITHURAI PLEADS GUILTY TO TERRORISM OFFENCE
OTTAWA – May 11, 2010 – Prapaharan Thambithurai, 46, entered a guilty plea today in the Supreme Court of British Columbia to one count of providing financial services knowing that they will benefit a terrorist group, namely the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), contrary to ss. 83.03(b) of the Criminal Code. The offence carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
He was arrested on March 14, 2008 and was released on bail on March 18, 2008.
Sentencing will occur Friday May 14, 2010.
